Puppet Theatre Barge • Little Venice

3rd April 7.30pm

Folk/Traditional

Noum presents Songs from these Lands, a show dedicated to traditional music from around the world tonight frequenting the nearby lands of England, Ireland, Scotland, France and Corsica. To help steer the ship she will be joined by exceptional fiddler Owen Spafford bringing his deep love and understanding of vernacular music.

Noum (Noémie Ducimetière) is a London-based singer, guitarist and producer originally from French-speaking Switzerland who has sung in the Royal Albert Hall alongside Jordan Rakai and is one of the founding voices of Idrîsî Ensemble. Distilling modern styles into devoted and psychedelic explorations of their origins with a debut album that is currently simmering in the making, tonight she is drawn to honouring the folk songs that continue to shape and guide her.

Special guest Owen Spafford is a fiddle player and composer from Leeds. An All-Britain Fiddle Champion at the Fleadh Cheoil na Breataine, Owen's installation ‘Welcome Here, Kind Stranger’ has been showcased at the Rainy Days Festival in Luxembourg, alongside artists such as Sam Amidon and Brighde Chaimbeul. Owen has also released a debut album with guitarist Louis Campbell, a duo blending traditional and experimental music by exploring English folk, chamber music, and post-rock. He also plays in The Weaving with Méabh Begley and Cáit Ní Riain, in which he explores his love of traditional Irish music.
